Referrals/Prescription
Orthotic/prosthetic care is provided on a physician referral and prescription basis. We make hospital visits when appropriate and, working with your physician, our certified practitioner assists in the formulation of prescriptions for orthoses and prostheses. It is the patient's responsibility to obtain the prescription for the orthosis or prosthesis, and the providing practitioner's to see that the device conforms to your prescription. We request that you provide that prescription at your initial visit. A prescription is not required for minor repairs or adjustments, but private insurance companies may require that you submit a prescription with your claim.

Appointments
Since we see all our patients on an appointment basis, we request that you call in advance to reserve the time for your visit. We make a genuine effort to honor all our time commitments, and ask that you extend us the same courtesy. We apologize if you are not seen exactly at your appointed time, but please remember that your patience allows you to receive the same quality orthotic/prosthetic attention and care when you are seen. If you are unable to keep an appointment, we ask that you give us 24 hours notice. This courtesy makes it possible for us to utilize your appointment time for other patients' care.

Individual Care
At Carolina Ortho Prosthetics, we consult with your physician and/or the rehabilitation therapists to develop the treatment plan best suited to your requirements and lifestyle. The orthosis/prosthesis prescribed is determined by these factors and considerations of comfort and physical condition.
Design and construction of your orthosis/prosthesis requires impressions (casts), drawings, measurements and models. Thorough analysis of the working model will be performed before finishing procedures begin, ensuring proper fit, correct alignment and function. This analysis may take more than one visit, particularly in prosthetic procedures, maximizing proper contour and comfort. At your final visit we instruct you in the care and use of the orthosis/prosthesis, and reinforce your training program. The prescribing physician is notified of your status, and you will be referred to their office for an examination.

Follow-Up Visits And Care
Follow-up visits are necessary and are among our most important services. Patients are periodically monitored to assure that proper fit, alignment and function are maintained. More frequent follow-up appointments may be required for certain conditions. Ongoing instruction in the care and use of your orthosis/prosthesis will be provided, and your physician and therapist are kept informed of your progress and status.
